The first two trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, have been appropriately abstract, mostly just teasers meant to make fans want, without really giving a concrete glimpse of the film’s plot and protagonists.
The newly released third trailer delivers that glimpse, and the main takeaway here is that this instalment of the movies series looks thoroughly in the vein of the original Star Wars trilogy.
The two heroes, Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega), wander a desert planet like one Luke Skywalker.
Kylo Ren, clearly the villain, ponders Darth Vader’s mask while saying, in a very Darth Vader-like voice, that he will “finish what you started.”
And then there’s Han Solo and Princess Leia, looking old and grizzled and telling stories of a time long ago when Jedi fought the Dark Side.
Director J.J. Abrams has ensured this movie is as nostalgic as possible.
