To save his theater a koala hosts a singing competition that draws the attention of the entire town in Illumination’s latest animation, Sing.
With Kung Fu Panda 3, Zootopia, Storks and Sing (I’m sure I forgot at least one other), 2016 truly is the year of anthropomorphic animals in animation. Now don’t confuse animations with talking animals (think Finding Dory, Ice Age or The Secret Life of Pets) and those with anthropomorphic ones. The latter is where animals wear clothes and act like humans, which is something Hollywood was kind of scared of doing for a couple of years (with a few exceptions), for whatever reason. But now they’re back bigger than ever and American Idol inspired Sing is set to take the holiday season by storm.
Garth Jennings wrote and directed this 7th (Secret Life of Pets is 6th) feature from Despicable Me and Minions animation studio Illumination Entertainment. Voicing the heroes of Sing are Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Whiterspoon, Taron Egerton, Leslie Jones, Nick Offerman, Seth MacFarlane, John C. Reilly and many others.
Sing opens first in Germany on December 8th, while the US will have to wait until December 21st. The animation will release alongside sci-fi adventures Assassin’s Creed and Passengers.
