This beautiful screen diva, is a Nollywood actress, Film Producer, TV and Media personality. She has carved a niche for herself in the industry and has shown genuine love for the make-believe profession. Born on 13th September, 1974. She hails from Ikwerre in Rivers State. She is the first in her family of two sons and four daughters.
She attended Army Children’s School for her Primary Education and then Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls’ School, Elelenwo, for her Secondary Education. Both schools are located in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Nigeria. She proceeded to obtain a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Port-Harcourt.
In 2004, She got married to Segun Dejo Richards and the union produced a beautiful daughter, Tamar. They are however divorced.
Monalisa Chinda began acting in 1993 when she was still in school in a soap opera titled “Aba” but started professionally in 1996 when she was featured in “Pregnant Virgin” She also featured in the movie “Above the law” shortly after she graduated from the University in the year 2000. On graduation, she worked as a banker. Before Monalisa began her home movie career, she was reported to have fallen in love with stage plays , one of her stage plays was “Our Husband has gone mad again” by Ola Rotimi and “the fight to stop female circumcision” by late Amatu braid.
She has featured in over 80 movies some of which are; Tight corner, Fragile pain, The golden moon, Inside job, Spirit of love, On my wedding day, Weekend Gateway, Royal Grandmother, Critical Truth, Kiss and Tell, Anointed Liars, Breaking Heart, Without Goodbye, Above the Law, City of Angels, Torn, Passionate Heart, Memories of the Heart, Itoro, Lagos Cougars, Games Men Play, and Nollywood Hustlers.
She has won several awards: She was crowned as the “Face of Port Harcourt” carnival queen in Rivers state. She was also nominated for Best Actress in a drama series at the Terracotta TV and Film Awards, Best Actress; Afro Hollywood Award 2009 at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, She also won an award at Afro-Australian Music and Movie Awards for the Most Outstanding African Actress (2010), 2011 ZAFAA awards for the best actress in comedy series, and City People face of Nollywood Award , 2011.
Monalisa is involved in a lot of charity work. She has a column (Monalisa Code) in the Saturday edition of The Sun Newspapers where she writes on social issues and relationships. She is a consultant with Royal Arts Academy, a media school known for breeding new talents, in acting, directing, and screen-writing.
Monalisa has successfully grounded herself into the Nollywood industry. She is currently one of the Glo Ambassadors, an endorsement that is worth over a hundred million Naira.
