Sometime today Star Wars: The Force Awakens made it past $1.9 billion worldwide, on its way to eventually become only the 3rd film to ever gross more than $2 billion.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens delivered another $47.3 million last weekend for an international total of over $1.025 billion (all-time 4th) and $1.9 billion worldwide by the end of today. It’s gonna be more of a crawl to the $2 billion mark, but The Force Awakens will definitely get there eventually.
Thing is it’s probably not going much higher than that, at least not high enough to overtake Titanic ($2.186 billion) and move to 2nd place on the all-time worldwide chart.
The film slowed down considerably in China where it’s at $108.4 million after two weeks and that was The Force Awakens‘ last market (currently 2nd biggest after the UK with over $168 million), so at this point it’s losing steam everywhere. $2.1 billion worldwide is probably the ceiling for Episode VII, which is still extremely impressive and a lot more than anyone realistically expected before its release.
