In The Man Who Knew Infinity Dev Patel plays famed Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar. This is the first US trailer for the biographical drama.
With almost no formal training in mathematics, Ramanujan achieved more in his short life (died at 32) than many others in his field. I’m not gonna pretend I ever heard of him until I saw this trailer, let’s just say I never came anywhere close to having to study his work (or at least I don’t remember). But based on what Wikipedia tells me about him, this is absolutely a story worth telling on the big screen, probably even a movie worth your time.
“Growing up poor in Madras, India, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar earns admittance to Cambridge University during WWI. There he became a pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his professor, G.H. Hardy.”
Besides Dev Patel, also starring in The Man Who Knew Infinity are Jeremy Irons, Stephen Fry and Toby Jones. Matt Brown directed and wrote the film’s screenplay based on the biographical novel “The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan” by Robert Kanigel.
The Man Who Knew Infinity was first screened last year in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie opens April 8th in the UK and April 29th in the US.
